The 4 key issues for tech leaders

Technology is now part-and-parcel of strategic thinking and no longer the sole preserve of IT. Apply yourself right now to the 4 key issues outlined below. Of course, you may already be familiar with these concerns, but now is the time to tackle them from a technological perspective: they will form the basis of your artificial intelligence projects.

1/ The talent war: pick the right battles

Digital talents are still few and far between, meaning it’s up to you to train them internally and to look for them wherever they are.

  • Don’t stop at data scientists. Businesses focus on data scientist profiles, but don’t forget all those AI end users: warehouse workers, salespeople, call center employees, business experts, and so forth. Some won’t be very familiar with new technology, and you run the risk of widening the digital divide if you overlook them.
  • Shift from digital awareness to digital literacy. Did you check the “digital awareness” box on the annual training program? Well, don’t stop there! Put the technology in the hands of all your employees (yes, the IT department will be in a fix). Let them have access to digital tool platforms, and encourage them to develop applications or adapt the tools they already have. The risk will be offset by the digital acculturation, which will be invaluable.
  • Take the plunge: work 100% remotely. If you were already reluctant to telecommute, you won’t like the idea of working with 100% remote employees. At the same time, this is a way of accessing a wider pool of talent and more varied profiles, such as individuals who don’t want to work in an office but who possess the skills you are looking for.
