The Anti-Bizness of Outrage
How simple acts of kindness sparked a global movement of generosity? Social media, accused of thriving on outrage, also plays a role in spreading acts of kindness and generosity!
Created by Asha Curran in 2012 as a reaction to consumer-driven events like Black Friday, Giving Tuesday was designed to promote solidarity and mutual support in a world often polarized and focused on consumption. Its principles are simple: encourage people to donate, volunteer their time, or perform acts of generosity for others. By establishing a dedicated day for these kind actions (the Tuesday following Thanksgiving), Giving Tuesday unites local and global communities around altruistic efforts, transcending political, social, and cultural divides.
This global initiative helps people reconnect through shared values of giving and mutual aid, even in a climate marked by division. Every contribution, big or small, adds to a collective movement, reminding individuals that they are part of something larger. This dynamic strengthens social bonds, fosters dialogue, and provides a positive model that counters divisive forces, offering a space for solidarity and unity in a fragmented world.
It’s the anti-business of outrage!
