Little Find

Cocoon, trust, performance

How do some people obtain commitment from their teams? They’re ready to sacrifice themselves for the team, and their colleagues can feel it.

When people feel safe, they work naturally together and help each other without being coerced or pressured, explains Simon Sinek in this Ted Talk that – although recorded some time ago – is still topical. These individuals achieve together what they can’t do alone, and they’re able to mobilize themselves against external dangers, take risks and make sacrifices.

These observations have been borne out in practice, even – especially – when working remotely.

Great leaders are forged by their ability to create a circle of trust around them so that each member of their team feels safe. But creating trust and security also means taking on huge responsibilities, starting with a real transfer of energy.

In a robust circle of safety, you’re not the only person who shares what they know. Everyone is encouraged to do so. The more energy you transfer to the people on the ground, the people closest to the information, the more value your team will create.

Anything that distances you from the impact of your words and decisions will lead you down a dangerous path, and will only be made worse by physical distance and digital abstraction. So be on your guard and stay physically connected to your teams, even in these hybrid times.
