The incredible resilience of tomorrow’s leader
As we shift from the industrial model towards a more sustainable one, of value creation for all stakeholders, all this in an unstable world, so leadership must transform itself too. Tomorrow’s leadership is holistic, driven by meaning, and naturally resilient.
Tomorrow’s leader is not a manager, but a visionary. He or she must be bold in imagining the future, crafting a purpose, and sharing it throughout the organization to rally troops. Courage is also needed to go beyond expectations about work: by revealing their authentic selves, warts and all, but also by creating an atmosphere of psychological security, leaders will help unleash everyone’s full potential.
Consign control and command as well traditional hierarchies to the dustbins of history. Organizations are more resilient when they function as networks of autonomous teams working together. Leaders should don the mantle of coach (not “boss”) to encourage agile experimentation. Last but not least, tomorrow’s leader embraces an abundance mindset, and becomes the architect of value co-created with all stakeholders.
