You have a political role to play

Spotlighting CSR initiatives isn’t enough anymore! Business can and must carry more political clout when it comes to transitioning to sustainable growth – on the proviso that it wants to have a positive impact on the planet and the people who live on it.

Your company already plays a political role through its communication, investment choices or lobbying activities. It can focus on giving more support to its pro-society initiatives and move towards what researchers call corporate political responsibility. This includes making a serious investment in matters of governance, which are often overlooked.
This transition is difficult for companies, since they are obliged to revise their priorities, switch to a longer-term vision and embrace a more proactive attitude. But it is possible if they engage in the four following ways:

  • Lobbying in favor of sound market regulation;
  • Backing policies that guarantee that institutions operate in a balanced manner;
  • Helping citizens make the right choices via relevant communication actions;
  • Exercising a positive influence on the planet and society.

It’s up to you to apply this in an action plan!
